So, I saw “Passing Strange” on Broadway right before it closed— the same night, as luck would have it— that Spike Lee was there watching the show (probably for the millionth time), scoping out how he was going to preserve it for posterity. And now, he has.
Mr. Lee filmed this daring, creative, and autobiographical musical written by Stew (music by Stew and Heidi Rodewald), saving a show that closed too soon from becoming a footnote in the long line of Broadway shows gone by. And, finally, the film is being released.
